In the southernmost tip of the popular tourist destination region of Sunshine Coast can be found the town of Caloundra. The resort community is truly a vibrant and tourist-oriented community offering the bests of both the lush hinterland and the stunning coastline, where beaches are combined with the crisp of the white and blue of sands and skies. Caloundra stretches practically from the white and blue beaches to the cool green lush of hinterlands.

It is thought that Caloundra got its current name from the old Aboriginal word 'Callanda' meaning 'a beautiful place. Some scholars and researchers assert that the town name was derived from the Kabi language word 'Cullowundoor', which translates to 'beech tree', a kind of tree that abounds the community. The headland Caloundra head is up to know grown with posh and lush beech trees.

The climate in Caloundra, just like in other Sunshine Coast towns, is very ideal for outdoor fun activities. For one, the subtropical temperature is often described as warm and balmy. Experts and advocates claim that the temperature already makes up for a relaxing and ideal vacation front. Summers from December to February, mostly winters in most countries in the northern hemisphere, are temperate as mercury rises to about 20°C to 28°C. Winters on the other hand, from June to August, are not freezing as temperatures fall to just 10°C to 20°C. Thus, Caloundra is popular to foreigners and tourists from northern hemisphere countries, where summers come in June to August, winters in Caloundra, and winters come in December to February, where it is summer in Caloundra.

Caloundra has notably become among the most rapidly growing holiday destinations in the whole of Australia. The near perfect climate, the greenery, ideal living conditions and easy lifestyles make Caloundra truly a vacation destination to go to. It is not surprising that for the past several years, the volume of tourists and vacationers going to the place has been steadily growing.

Fun and leisure activities usually done and facilitated in Caloundra include surfing, boating, sail boarding, water skiing and fishing. The surf beaches in the area are among the most pristine in the region.

The geographical location is strategic for easy access. The town is just about an hour away from Queensland's capital of Brisbane. If you would take flights from Brisbane Airport, it would take a few minutes before you land at the nearby Sunshine Coast Airport on Marioochydore. Thus, access from key Australian cities of Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney is easily facilitated. Caloundra is also accessible using the Caloundra Bus Station by road and the Landsborough Railway Station by train.

Not surprising is that tourism is the major industry of Caloundra. Commerce is the second main industry, which can be explained by the presence of major commercial and trade businesses in the area.

Caloundra has a variety of beaches, Golden Beach is protected by Bribie Island to the east. Kings Beach is known as the main beach of Caloundra. Bulcock Beach is equally ideal for children and wind-surfing. Caloundra is a vibrant tourist-oriented community. The Caloundra CBD located on Bulcock Street is within walking distance of beaches. Caloundra City lays claim to 10 of Queensland’s most popular patrolled beaches.
