At the center of the Sunshine Coast region of Queensland in Australia can be found the tourist resort township of Mooloolaba. The community is located in the north of the state capital city of Brisbane. To the east of the town could be found the Coral Sea, where white sand beaches are found. The south is adorned by the Mooloolah River, which facilitates and makes way for fishing and shipping ports. The north and the west are bordered by landscapes like the Buderim and the Alexandra Headland. Etymologically, Mooloolaba has been derived from the old Aboriginal word 'mulu', which means Snapper fish. Some studies that the name Mooloolaba could have also been derived from the Aboriginal word 'mulla', referring to a red-bellied black snake. In the past, Mooloolaba was originally known as Moloolah Heads until a land owner changed the name to Mooloolaba in 1919. Mooloolaba is loved by tourists because of its ocean-tempered climate and weather. In Mooloolaba, its can never get freezingly cold in winter nor blazingly hot during summer. In fact, summer months are characterized by tropical lightning storms. Temperatures get to a range of 17°C to 28°C on summers and 7°C to 23°C during winters. People of Mooloolaba are naturally sports lovers. That is last week of March, there is a traditional annual Triathlon festival. The celebration lasts for about a two to three days. In the Triathlon festival, interstate representatives come and compete with each other. The excitement cannot be easily contained as more visitors come to the town during the festival both to witness the event and at the same time give support and cheer for their favorite athletes. Locals also get their share of this Mooloolaba event. In the end, everyone gets to enjoy watching and participating in several running, cycling and swimming events. To top it all, parties usually catapult the occasion. Mooloolaba is considered a sports center. Aside from the Triathlon festival, the community also regularly hosts the famous BG Mooloolaba ITU World Cup. The event facilitates for the coming over of about 150 of global top triathletes battling it all out for Olympic qualifying points and a significant prize money. Tourists just cannot resist this sports event. Aside from those, Mooloolaba is also known for its annual Mooloolaba seafood festival that is held at the end of September. The festival culminates and celebrates Mooloolaba's major industry - fishing. The tourism authority of Mooloolaba aims to use its thriving industry to boost the performance of another industry, which is not as strong as fishing in Mooloolaba - tourism. Not to miss in the festival is the flooding of mouth-watering prawn, the main fishing catch and export commodity from Mooloolaba.
